Mario Cortés is originally from Chihuahua, Mexico. He holds a B.A. in Musical Theatre by Surrey University’s Guildford School of Acting and a Diploma in filmmaking by the New York Film Academy.
In Europe and the UK his credits include Stephen Sondheim’s Company, The best little whorehouse in Texas, Jack and the Beanstalk, Coca-Cola Lifehouse Berlin, The importance of being Earnest and On the shelf at the Edimburgh Fringe Festival 2002. He was chosen by Richard Stilgoe (lyrics for Starlight Express and Phantom of the Opera) to be part of the cast of his original musical Exit Allan, which premiered at the First International Musical Theatre Festival in Cardiff, Wales.
In the US he sang Love Songs with the PanAmerican Orchestra of Washington D.C. under the musical direction of Mtro. Sergio Buslje. In New York he played the role of Otoniel in Jaime Lozano’s musical Children of Salt in the New York Music Festival Off-Broadway.
In Mexico his acting credits include Selena el musical, Emperadores de la Antártida el musical, Navidad Mágica, Godspell, Las del OTI, Florinda Meza’s La Reina Madre, Qué plantón el concierto and Mass Appeal.
His TV credits include Su nombre es Dolores, El César, Una Familia de Diez, Alma de Ángel for Televisa; Un día para vivir and Justo y Necesario for TV Azteca.
His credits as a director include Little shop of horrors, Once on this island, Personals, Homenaje a Cri-Cri, Fame the musical, Los Premios Teporaca 2009, Next to normal, Cuánto te amé, RomCom, Sister Act, Two Wrongs, Valientes, Neil LaBute’s Fat Pig, Amor amor – la música de Rafael Pérez Botija, Lo máZ Maravilloso and recently the development of the original musical Cucú el musical.
